The Process
To begin the process, please fill out our Bridal Alterations Questionnaire and send detailed photos of your gown. Mary Grace will review your submission and provide a very rough estimate based on the information you provide.
If you decide to proceed, you’ll pay a non-refundable booking fee to reserve your fitting dates on our calendar. Bridal alterations typically begin 6–10 weeks before your wedding date, depending on the complexity of the gown and the scope of work.
Fitting Appointments
All fittings take place in the Anagrassia Atelier in South Bend, Indiana. You must bring the following items to every fitting:
-
Wedding shoes
-
Bra, bra cups, or shapewear you plan to wear on your wedding day
-
Any custom undergarments (if applicable)
During the first fitting, Mary Grace will assess the gown in person and give you a more accurate estimate for labor and materials. Because she charges by the hour, please note that:
-
Weight fluctuations may increase the cost
-
Design changes after work has begun may also increase the price
-
Brides with highly detailed gowns (lace appliqué, beading, corsetry) should expect a more intensive process

Every bride’s body is unique, and very few women fit a gown off-the-rack. Most fitted gowns—especially those made with boning or intricate layers—need to be taken apart and resewn to achieve a custom fit.
Things to Know Before Shopping for a Gown
If you're not a standard sample size and want to avoid high alteration costs, shop with care. Dresses that are fully beaded, corseted, or covered in lace appliqué typically require extensive and expensive alterations. If you’re on a tight budget, opt for simpler silhouettes in clean fabrics like silk crepe or satin.
Bridal alterations are a serious investment in your overall wedding look—and one that ensures you look and feel your best on your most important day.
